Hi friends,
You guys know the quiet, nagging fear that says, “What if I’m not really saved?” —Me too, and it can feel so heavy, especially when we’re already wrestling with anxiety. If Christian anxiety about salvation & fear has been stealing your peace lately, I want you to know you’re not alone; and more importantly God’s Word has gentle, steady truth to speak over those worries today.
Let’s open our Bibles together (or pull up your favorite app) and read 1 John 5:11-13, maybe even twice, letting each word settle in.
“And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
The Gift That Cannot Be Earned
John doesn’t say “so that you may hope” or “so that you may guess.” He says “so that you may know.” That word “know” is strong and certain in the original language, like standing on solid ground, not shifting sand.
So many of us grew up hearing that salvation is a free gift, yet anxiety creeps in and convinces us we have to keep proving we’re worthy of it. But look at the verse again: God has given us eternal life. Past tense. Completed. It’s in His Son, not in our perfect performance, our flawless feelings, or our ability to never doubt.
When anxiety about salvation fear rises up, it’s often because we’ve accidentally shifted our eyes from Jesus onto ourselves. The moment we look inward for assurance, we’ll always find cracks. But when we look to Him (the One who never fails) we find unshakable security.
Believing Is Having
“Whoever has the Son has life.”
It’s that simple, and yet our anxious hearts want to complicate it. We wonder if our faith was sincere enough that one time we prayed, or if today’s struggles mean we’ve lost what we once had.
Friend, having the Son isn’t about the intensity of a moment years ago. It’s about today. Do you believe in the name of the Son of God? If your heart, even with all its questions and weaknesses, still says yes to Jesus, then according to this verse, you have life. Not “might have.” Not “will have if you do better.” You have it.
That’s the gentle truth John wanted believers to rest in. He wrote these words so we wouldn’t spend our days anxiously examining our faith under a microscope, but so we could confidently rest in the finished work of Christ.

A Gentle Reminder When Doubt Creeps In
I love how personal this passage feels. John isn’t writing to super-saints who never struggle, rather he is writing to ordinary believers who needed reassurance. Some of them were facing false teachers who made them question everything. Sound familiar?
If anxiety is making you replay your salvation moment or fear you’ve somehow stepped outside God’s grace, try this simple breath prayer today:
Inhale slowly: “I believe in the name of the Son of God.”
Exhale slowly: “Therefore I know I have eternal life.”
Repeat it a few times, letting the promise wash over the fear. It’s not magic, it’s just anchoring your heart back to what God has already declared true about you.

Closing Prayer
Father,
Thank You for the clear, kind words of 1 John that cut through the fog of our fears. When Christian anxiety about salvation tries to rob us of peace, help us turn our eyes back to Jesus— the One in whom eternal life is found. Remind us that believing in Your Son means we have life, truly and forever.
Quiet the accusing voices in our minds and replace them with the gentle testimony of Your Spirit: we are Yours. We belong to You. Nothing can snatch us from Your hand.
Hold every anxious heart reading this today, and give us the deep, settled knowing that we are safe in Christ.
In the precious name of Jesus,
Amen.
